Day 19 Update - Homecoming, Part I

Hi Everyone!  We are getting ready to head out to the hospitals so I will be brief.  We are going to visit Golda first today, then head over to North Shore to see Leah and take her brother home!!!

Golda had a great night.  When I left her yesterday she had just finished 3 ml of breast milk, given over an hour and was making faces that made me think she was trying to make a poopie.  I mentioned it to her nurse who said she would keep checking her diaper to see if we got a surprise.  Well, we got one this morning!  Around 7 am she passed some more meconium (the first poop most babies pass after birth) and then when I called just after 9 am, I had to hold on because her nurse was cleaning her huge poopie diaper!!  So, that says that everything from stomach down is functioning as it should!  Quite the relief (both for us and, I would imagine, for Golda too!) to know we have averted one big complication.  Golda is still on her CPAP and breathing room air.  She now weighs 1180 g (2 lbs. 9.62 oz.) and hopefully that will continue to increase since they have increased her feeds to 4 ml over an hour every three hours!

Leah now weighs 1625 g (3 lbs. 9.25 oz.).  She ate 45 ml of breast milk this morning, but burped up some of it, so they have limited her to 40 ml at a time for now. She is off the human milk fortifier so that means that if she continues to gain adequate weight over the next three days, she could be coming home!  She is estimated to be released between the 10th and the 15th.

Micah now weighs 2090 g (4 lbs. 9.72 oz.).  He took 55 ml at his last feed, but burped some up, so they are limiting him to 50 ml at a time too.  The nurse said that shouldn't interfere with his discharge today, but that they had to let the doctors know since burping up food could be an early sign of sickness (grr).  But, again, he is still scheduled to come home today.

Okay, gotta go!  I will try to update later to at least confirm that Micah is home, otherwise, more tomorrow!
