Day 13 Update - 5769 is looking like a good year!

Good Morning!  Yesterday, I got to bottle feed both Leah and Micah!  Leah was still on her bili light and still on skin monitoring so I had to feed her in her isolette. That took some doing and I wasn't too successful burping her - poor thing spit up twice and then got the hiccups.  But she did drink the whole bottle down pretty happily.  Micah gobbled his bottle down too and gave me two nice burps as well.  In addition I diapered both of them - this is getting easier since they have fewer wires attached to them now.  Golda also came out to say hello and to complain a bit.  I heard both squeaks of contentment and cries of annoyance for disturbing her sleep.  Golda met her Aunt Lucille and Uncle Louie and Leah and Micah saw their Auntie Irene and Uncle Roy again (and they all got to see Pepa again too).

This mornings phone calls yielded some really good news.  Golda is off her CPAP and breathing only room air!!!  Last night the surgeon told the night nurse to remove her Repogle (the brand name of the drain she had in her throat to remove saliva from her esophagus) and replace it with an Anderson tube (another type of drain that is softer than the Repogle).  It seems that they felt the harder, less flexible Repogle was not doing it's job and that's why she was having the episodes.  Since they changed the tubing she has been doing great!  She is now weighing 1099 g (2 lbs. 6.76 oz.).

Leah has been taken off the bili lights and the oxygen cannula and is doing great!  She is also taking all her feedings by bottle now and is up to 22 ml of fortified breast milk.  She now weighs 1450 g (3 lbs. 3.14 oz.)!

Micah.  Micah has graduated from the nursery he was in and is now in a "feeder and grower" nursery - last stop before home!!!  His NG tube is out and he is taking every feeding by bottle and his nurse says he is the best eater in the room.  His weight is 1920 g (4 lbs. 3.72 oz.) and he is now eating 30 ml of fortified breast milk (about an ounce).  The nurse told us that we should expect him to come home in the next few days!!!!  He needs to keep doing so well, keep taking between 1 and 1.5 oz. and pass his car seat challenge and he could be home in a day or so.  The car seat challenge: we bring in his car seat and proof that it hasn't been recalled and they test him in it for an hour to make sure he is okay in it (since he is under the minimum weight limits) and if so, he gets to go home.  I can't even begin to tell you how excited we all are about this!  Even if it does make it harder to juggle everything and everyone (until Leah, at least joins him at home and takes away one stop in our day's activities).

Keep your fingers crossed that everyone keeps on progressing so well!  Perhaps Friday could be the day we get to take one of our babies home and feed one for the first time (okay, let's not get ahead of ourselves)!!!

More tomorrow!
